I conducted an initial round of testing at the mid-fidelity stage of the project and asked 5 participants to give me their feedback on the overall structure of the app. I wanted to identify any navigation pain points early on so I could adjust them before applying the final design.
A need to clarify what the audio icon meant on the Calendar view was brought to my attention. Some users also suggested the "+" button to create a new journal entry should be bigger and in the middle of the navigation bar. This function being initially in the top right hand corner of the screen proved to be a mistake as it wasn't prominent enough. This adjustment was instrumental in improving the overall user experience.
With these issues rectified, I applied the full design to my wireframes and conducted a final round of user testing with 3 participants this time reviewing my high-fidelity prototype.
Highlighting the need for some small final tweaks, this stage was crucial in bringing the design to a polished professional standard. I replaced the logo on the Home page with an inspiring image and made the quote bigger. This landing page now feels more inviting and in keeping with the overall mood of the project.
These rounds of feedback and iterations tested my decision-making skills as I had to consider every suggestion with care before implementing them without justification. I had to find the right balance between responding to the brief with use of native design guidelines and creating a satisfying user experience.
